Citadines Hotel – Luxury in Bangkok

Bangkok, aka ‘the city of angels’ is deemed as the nucleus for backpackers and tourists who visit Southeast Asia. It’s hectic and chaotic, it has temples and shopping centers and lots of things to see and do. Bangkok has a reputation for being a ‘must experience’ city place among travelers.

Contrary to a lot of other people’s opinions and views of this fascinating city, we absolutely love Bangkok. It’s got a sense of adventure and busyness that drew us in from the very first day we set foot on the legendary Khao San Road. During the course of the last two years, we’ve spent a total of about six weeks in the city and we’ve enjoyed everything that the city has to offer.

On our last visit to Bangkok, we chose to stay away from Khao San Road as we opted to see a more modern and trendy side to the city. After a quick google search, we decided to stay in the popular area of Sukhumvit.

Sukhumvit is the longest road in Thailand, both it and its many adjoining ‘sois’ or sub streets are poor on traditional tourist attractions but extremely rich in air-conditioned malls, luxury hotels, stylish clubs and fashionable restaurants.

As it was our last few days in Southeast Asia, we wanted to stay in a hotel that was special and offered its guests that little bit more, so we chose to stay at two of the reputable Citadines Apart’ hotels.

Citadines Sukhumvit 8 - 2 Bedroom Deluxe Living Dining Kitchen

Citadines Hotel have four properties that are located in the Sukhumvit area, we opted for a one night stay in Sukhumvit 8 and another night in its sister hotel in Sukhumvit 11.

Both hotels were amazing and we felt like we could stay there forever! The rooms were super comfy and kitted out with everything that one would need to make their stay as comfortable and as enjoyable as possible.

True to the Citadines tradition, each of the serviced residences that we stayed in comprised of both studios and one and two bed-roomed units making them the perfect stay for solo travelers, couples and families too.

Some of the rooms modern facilities include a fully equipped kitchen (which came complete with cooker, hub and hood, electric kettle and toaster, microwave oven and refrigerator, glassware, crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils) a multi-split air conditioning unit, a steam iron and ironing board, complimentary basic WIFI access and a flat screen TV with cable channels and a CD/DVD/MP3 player. One great feature of the TV is that it slides from the lounge into the bedroom which gave us the option of watching TV from the comfort of the couch or the bed.

Citadines Sukhumvit 11 - Lobby

I was especially impressed with the office area in each of the studios that we stayed in, it came complete with an extremely comfy office chair, spot lamp and all the accessories that I needed to get productive for a few hours. Flor chilled out on the comfy couch and got her work done there – and she looked quite happy too!

The property in Sukhumvit 8 is situated in one of the city’s central yet tranquil residential areas. It is excellently located as it is very close to major offices and business centres, hospitals, shopping malls, restaurants, international schools and Nana skytrain station is just a few minutes’ walk away allowing for easy access to the rest of the city.

Citadines Sukhumvit 11 also has a tremendous location as it is right in the center of soi 11 which is home to a vibrant night market, and lots of restaurants and pubs making it an extremely popular haunt for tourists and expats too. It is situated just across the way from the one in Sukhumvit 8 meaning that it too is in close proximity to the Nana skytain station.

Both apartments offer modern facilities and top quality services , some of which include a business corner, a fitness corner, housekeeping services, an outdoor swimming pool, daily breakfast, meal delivery service, a Tuk Tuk service to Nana skytrain station, a launderette and a restaurant.

I just need to give the breakfast a quick mention here! The Citadines Sukhumvit 11 hotel is situated beside the very popular Mulligan’s Irish Bar & Restaurant and they provide breakfast for the guests who stay there. I’ve had a few breakfasts in my time but the breakfast I had in Mulligan’s was unbelievably tasty and satisfying – was just what we needed before embarking on the 22 hour journey to Barcelona.

The staff at Citadines were extremely friendly and helpful. We found them to be among the most welcoming out of all of the hotel staff we had encountered during our ten months of traveling in Southeast Asia.

If you’re looking for top quality accommodation that is excellently located in the city of Bangkok, look up the Citadines Apart’ hotels.
